NEW LAW is Coming in 2004 called US VISIT
A new law is coming early next year called US VISIT which would be applied on all the
countries barring those countries with whom there is an agreement of visa relaxation.
New law will replace the previous year Registration law but important thing is that till the time new law
is introduced the previous law will remain intact and those Pakistanis falling in category for re-registration would be required to carry out the
procedure.
New law will give give more powers to Immigration officers at border checks while exercise of finger
printing and photograph will also remain intact.
Acting Ambassador Mohammad Sadiq Friday asked the Pakistani nationals to continue to follow and abide by the requirement of special registration.
He was asked to comment on the Washington Post report appearing earlier Friday stating that "the Department of
Homeland Security is preparing to abandon a visitor-registration program" which requires 25 Muslim states to register.
Mr.Sadiq said "since the requirement of special registration continues as of today, hence, it should be complied with strictly"- unless some new program of registration is announced.
"Failure to re-register would be construed as an illegality and could cause a major legal problem."
The one-year re-report registration requirement remains in force in the United States for 25 states, including Pakistan.
The Government of Pakistan, he said is fully aware of the sufferings of the Pakistani nationals and the Embassy of Pakistan has been "forcefully
and actively" pleading their case with the U.S. authorities, in the matter of call-in registration. On the other hand, the Embassy has been educating the Pakistani nationals, asking them to follow the legal requirement in
letter and spirit.
